Did you know its just 25 years since the introduction of plastic carrier
bags and we now use over 500bn a year globally? And, once in the environment a bag can take years to break down and as it decomposes, toxic particles seep into the soil and water?

We decided we wanted to change the culture of how people use their shopping bags. The pile of plastic is a problem we all need to tackle as is the perceived disposability of the plastic bag. A lot of energy goes into making plastic bags and after one use they are often chucked - then they take up to 1,000 years to degrade in our land fills.

So we searched for a reusable, affordable, very functional bag. A bag that would encourage people to re-use and they would be proud to carry. We tried over 30 different bag samples over many months finding the right bag. When we found the Jutexpo shopping bag we knew it was just perfect.

The bag has worked really well, the size is ideal for groceries, cheap enough to buy a few, with handles that don't cut through your fingers on a long walk home. We have used the bags to send out positive messages which reflect our principles like 'shop local' & 'eat your greens'.

Gradually we have seen the change, most customers bring in their bags when they are shopping, slowly we have seen a huge shift in how people transport their shopping, it is now mainly in re-usable cloth bags.

The culture of re-using them is certainly here and we are proud that there are a few less plastic bags floating around because of that.

Mail Order

We do not, at this time, offer a mail order service on any of our products, including the shopping bags. Sorry, no exceptions! Please come in for one if you're in the area, we always have a wide range in the shop. Or pester a Manchester-based friend to do it for you! Alternatively, many other shops and organisations carry the same bags with their own slogans and logos - contact Jutexpo to find your nearest independent supplier.
