Veg Growers

Local supply is certainly our ideal and although the North West has many capable growers there are not so many in total. Year on year we have worked with UK farmers to increase the proportion of UK organic fruit & veg available at Unicorn. Every year supply has improved.

Since Glebelands Market Garden was set Soil Associationup in Sale we can have Kale out of the ground and in the shop in a couple of hours. The seasons limit what can be grown so we do rely on European organic supply to have such an impressive range throughout the year, but buying direct keeps it fresher & cheaper. As always, we would encourage you to eat seasonally, it's usually cheaper, tastier, more nutritious and of course a lot less 'well travelled'.

Unicorn is registered with the Soil Association and buys organic produce only from certified growers and suppliers.

Here are some of the farmers growing your food at this time of year.

Chris Hewitt - provides us with potatoes, brassicas and soft fruit from his farm at Dunham Massey in Cheshire.

Strawberry Fields - an organic oasis ten miles north of Boston, Lincolnshire.

Ward & Thompson - began growing vegetables as a hobby in 1984, but realised they were actually quite good at it.

Nicholas Watts - Vine House Farm - as well as courgettes, beans, sweetcorn, various brassicas and potatoes, Nicholas also supplies bird seed.
