SKY Sprouts

Sky sprouts is our main supplier of sprouts in the chiller. Based in Devon this family-based company was founded by two very enthusiastic parents wanting to give their children the best food possible.

In 1984 they started sprouting seeds and beans in their kitchen and 16 years, seven children and thousands of  tonnes of sprouts  later they are still growing them (although the sprouts have got their own ‘kitchen’  now.) Since then the company has grown and there are 14 varieties of sprouts (of which we stock 10) SKY bean sproutsranging from Mixed and Mung bean sprouts, Alfalfa to Chickpea, Fenugreek, Radish and the Super sprout Broccoli. Wheat Grass has just become the latest addition to their brood.

The sprouts are packed as a living food and can be used in sandwiches, salads and as a garnish. For more inspiration we have a variety of recipes on our website.

All Sky sprouts are grown from organic seed certified by the Soil Association. Packaged in containers that are resealable and are made from recycled plastic, transported in green crates that are reused hundreds if not thousands of times. They also use energy from their cold store to heat the growing rooms (where the sprouts like to listen to ‘lounge radio’).

If the spouts are sold out why not try and sprout your own? We keep a ready supply of sprouters and seeds in the veg area beside the main entrance. As Brett himself would say “commercial sprout growing is the same as growing on your kitchen windowsill, just on a grander scale”. There’s also a sprouting guide on the recipe section of our website.
